Kentucky State Police Expands Guaranteed Post Assignments for Cadet Class 107

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has announced an expansion of guaranteed post assignments for new troopers graduating from Cadet Class 107, set to commence in May 2026. This initiative includes the addition of Post 4 in Elizabethtown and Post 12 in Frankfort, both of which serve key metropolitan areas of Louisville and Lexington, respectively. KSP is actively accepting applications for the upcoming cadet class, offering a competitive annual starting salary of $69,500 along with a comprehensive benefits package that features hybrid retirement plans and sick leave buyback options.

Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the importance of the KSP’s role in the community, stating, “The Kentucky State Police serve all 120 of our counties and touch every corner of our Commonwealth.” He encouraged potential applicants to consider joining the force, highlighting the significance of having troopers who are familiar with the communities they serve in fostering public safety.

Cadets who do not have prior law enforcement experience will undergo an extensive 24-week training program, which consists of over 1,000 hours dedicated to both classroom instruction and practical field studies. This rigorous curriculum includes essential subjects such as constitutional law, juvenile and traffic laws, crisis management, criminal investigations, and community relations. Additionally, cadets will receive training on weapons use, first aid, high-speed pursuits, crowd control, hazardous material handling, and implicit bias education.

For those with prior law enforcement experience, KSP offers the Law Enforcement Accelerated Program (LEAP), which allows seasoned officers to transition into the agency through a condensed 14-course program.

Candidates selected from Posts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 12, and 16 will be guaranteed assignments at their home post location. Other applicants will be assigned to their home or neighboring posts based on the availability of positions and the agency’s needs. KSP Recruitment Commander Lt. Charles Hedgespeth noted that the inclusion of Post 4 and Post 12 to the guaranteed assignment program represents a significant advancement in KSP’s service capabilities to two of Kentucky’s most populous and rapidly growing regions.

The application deadline for both Cadet Class 107 and the LEAP program is set for December 2025.
