How tonight’s Celebrity Bake Off caused a major life change for Lucy Beaumont

Taking part in The Great British Bake Off is life-changing for many, especially those that go on to carve out brand new careers in the world of baking. But for Lucy Beaumont, it actually caused her quite a large life change.
The comedian and Celebrity Traitors star took part in a celebrity special of the Channel 4 show for Stand Up To Cancer, and revealed it got her diagnosed with ADHD.
Appearing alongside her Celebrity Traitors co-star Tom Daley, actor David Morrissey and radio presenter Adele Roberts, her chaotic baking style made her see a therapist.

Speaking back in 2023 when the episode originally aired, Lucy spoke about whether she’d spoken to anyone for advice about going in to the famous tent.
“Yes, a therapist – the show made me get a ADHD assessment,” she said. “I have severe ADHD!”

Later speaking about the assessment, she said it was “interesting being 40 and suddenly understanding a part of yourself when previously you’ve just thought you were a little bit unhinged.”
“It means your brain doesn’t want you to organise things,” she told The Sunday Times. “For some reason, it doesn’t want to make life easy for you. I’ll get from A to B but I’ll exhaust myself doing it. The brain chatter of just going for a cup of tea with a friend,” she said.
“You’re also in denial as well, and there’s nothing funnier than being flawed.”
Lucy was tasked with creating a quiche, bourbon biscuits and her perfect day in cake form, (an all you can eat carvery with Idris Elba and Tom Hardy, if you were wondering.)
Judge Prue Leith said on the show: “Lucy is the worry, she can do it, it just depends on if she’s concentrating or not.”

Lucy added she thought appearing on the show would be so good, it would cause a career change for her.
“I honestly thought this is going to be the beginning of my cookery career, I thought they’d ask me to bring out a cookbook. I’d have my kitchenware, open shops, a podcast… I had it all planned out,” she said.
The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it’s known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
