When a crime wave hits London, you want detective John Luther, played with debonair ingenuity by Idris Elba, on the case. Well, you’re in luck — because he’ll return in a second Luther feature film, reuniting with longtime costars Dermot Crowley, as Martin Schenk, and Ruth Wilson, as Alice Morgan. The follow-up to Luther: The Fallen Sun from 2023 will also welcome back director Jamie Payne and screenwriter Neil Cross (who created the flagship mystery series).
“Luther, Alice, and Schenk are more than characters to me — they’re family,” Cross says. “I never stop wondering where they are, what’s become of them … and what horrors might be stirring in the shadows of London while Luther’s not around. So we decided to get together and find out what happens next.”
