Report: Eagles CB Jaire Alexander stepping away from team

Jaire Alexander’s NFL journey might be nearing its end.

The veteran cornerback has reportedly informed the Philadelphia Eagles that he is stepping away from the team, per the Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Tuesday.

Alexander is stepping away to focus on getting right physically and mentally, according to Russini, as he contemplates retirement.

The 28-year-old is in the midst of his eighth NFL season, and unfortunately for the former two-time Pro Bowler, it is another injury-riddled campaign.

Alexander entered this season after back-to-back years of playing just seven games, after his 2024 campaign was cut short due to a knee injury. He was released by the Green Bay Packers in the summer — the team that drafted the CB with the 18th overall pick in 2018 — before signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Louisville product made just two appearances with the Ravens as he continued to recover from the knee injury before he was traded to the Eagles at the NFL’s trade deadline.

He’d yet to suit up for Philadelphia since the move.

In 80 career games, Alexander racked up 12 interceptions, three forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.

The Eagles (7-2) return to action on Sunday for a matchup against a fellow NFC division leader in the Detroit Lions (6-3).
