Eagles’ Jaire Alexander stepping away from football; CB to determine playing future

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander is stepping away from football to get right physically and mentally, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

The 28-year-old CB will then decide on his playing future after the break, per Garafolo.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer first reported the news.

Alexander was acquired by the Eagles on Nov. 1 in a trade with the Ravens that included a late-round pick swap.

Before having a chance to suit up with his new team, the Eagles announced Alexander wouldn’t travel for their eventual Week 10 road win against the Green Bay Packers, listing him as out with knee/coach’s decision.

It was in Green Bay where Alexander spent his first seven seasons, earning two Pro Bowl trips and making a name for himself as one of the league’s top cover men. All 12 of his career interceptions were with the Packers.

Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Ravens following a fallout with Green Bay.
