Derrick White on bumpy start to Celtics season, his shooting slump

This is not the same Boston Celtics ball club that Derrick White was traded to from the San Antonio Spurs. And while every season for an NBA team is its own distinct squad, in this case, the change from last season to this one was significant with the exits of Luke Kornet, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday.
The greener (pun intended) faces taking their place like Neemias Queta, Josh Minott, Luka Garza, and Hugo Gonzalez may have bright futures ahead of them, but with that inexperience comes change for Boston. And not always the fun kind, as fans have seen with Boston’s up-and-down play to start the season. Speaking on a recent episode of his “White Noise” podcast, Celtics guard Derrick White opened up about that dynamic. “I feel like the past four years, like, ever since I’ve been here, we had a large margin of error,” said White. “Something could be struggling, whatever it might be and … now our margin of error is shrunk.”
“So we (have) just got to continue to do all the little things that we’ve been talking about since training camp,” he added.
“I feel like every game we’ve gotten better and better,” continued White. “Everybody’s figuring out what they need to do, what we need to do, and so we do that. Hopefully, (we) make some more shots than we have been. I feel like we’ve gotten a lot of good looks from people that make (them). Personally, I’ve been shooting like (expletive).”
And while White has indeed been on a rough start to the season from the floor in terms of efficiency, it has also been improving with the Colorado native hitting 40.0% from beyond the arc and 50% from the floor overall. These kinds of starts often happen to teams losing a big part of their core identity, and so far, Boston has not panicked because of it.
