Catastrophic concerns around Aussie quicks

Australia could be dealt a catastrophic double blow on the eve of the Ashes, with Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott undergoing injury assessments.

Both Hazlewood and Abbott left the field when playing Sheffield Shield for NSW against Victoria at the SCG on Wednesday.

Code Sports reported both bowlers have hurt their hamstrings and are being assessed.

It comes as Australia will take on England next Friday in the first Ashes Test without star captain Pat Cummins.

Hazlewood was in impressive form across Australia’s white-ball series against India before stepping out to play a final red-ball match ahead of the Ashes.

There has been no confirmation from Cricket Australia as to the seriousness of the injuries.

They had both bowled nine overs before leaving the field.

Abbott was unlikely to play but if Hazlewood is ruled out, it would bring South Australian Brendan Doggett in line to make his Test debut.

More to come.
