Canucks’ Demko exits Tuesday vs. Jets, Hughes returns after heading to locker room

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko left Tuesday’s contest against the Winnipeg Jets after not returning for the second period, according to TSN’s Farhan Lalji.

He stopped five of eight shots in the opening frame before departing.

Demko had not played since Nov. 3 for what the club described as “maintenance”.

In nine games this season entering tonight, the 29-year-old had posted a 2.57 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage to go along with a 5-4-0 record.

He played just 23 games last season due to injury.

Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes briefly left Tuesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets with an upper-body injury, but did return.

The defenceman appeared to injure his shoulder after getting his stick tangled up with Jets forward Mark Scheifele while in a race for the puck. Hughes immediately grabbed his shoulder and headed to the locker room.

Hughes had one goal and nine assists in 13 games entering tonight and recorded a pair of assists on goals from Kiefer Sherwood and Jake DeBrusk.
