Beth Mooney Responds To Jemimah’s Quip, Says She Feared Not Being Let In Australia After Losing

Earlier, Rodrigues had joked that she feared that she wouldn’t be allowed to enter Australia after defeating them in the World Cup semifinal

Australian cricketer Beth Mooney responded with self-depricatiing humour to a comment made by Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues following India’s semi-final win over Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

Rodrigues, fresh from an unbeaten 127 that secured India’s place in the final, had joked after reaching Australia for playing the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) that she “was not sure if Australia would allow me to cross the border after the semi-finals.”

When asked about her reaction to that, Mooney seized on the opportunity to comment during a match for the Perth Scorchers against the Sydney Sixers.

“We heard Jemi say earlier that she was worried they weren’t going to let her in the country because they beat us, but I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing. Thankfully, immigration let me in,” she said, as quoted by The Indian Express.

India’s chase of Australia’s 338 runs in the semi-final was possible due to Rodrigues’ match-defining innings. After losing opener Shafali Verma in the second over, India recovered with a 46-run stand between Smriti Mandhana and Rodrigues, followed by a 167-run third-wicket partnership between Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Notably, Rodrigues had entered the match under pressure, having suffered two ducks earlier in the tournament and even being dropped for India’s match against England. She then launched the match-winning chase and stayed till the end.

Rodrígues, who plays for the Brisbane Heat in the WBBL, also added in the same interview that she was “so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world.”
