Considering Gabe Rotter’s ties to The X-Files franchise, we should have known that whatever he backed next would be overflowing with plenty of character-driven tension. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a brand-new look at his upcoming project, The Beast in Me, a miniseries created for Netflix that features leading performances from Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys. From what we’ve seen so far from the title’s trailer, audiences are going to be second-guessing themselves throughout each of the eight episodes, which drop in a bingeable fashion on November 13. With plenty of intrigue, drama, and layered characters, this is the perfect title for not only Rotter to work on but also Danes and Rhys, who spent many years thrilling fans with their hit shows Homeland and The Americans, respectively.
Our new look at the series focuses on the two personalities at the center of The Beast in Me’s twisted story: Danes’ Aggie Wiggs and Rhys’ Nile Jarvis. Embroiled in what appears to be a heavy conversation, it looks as if Nile cornered Aggie while she was out on the town, as she’s clutching a plastic takeaway bag in her right hand, while her body language looks like she’s in a rush to get away.
A tale of love, loss, heartbreak, and maybe some second chances, The Beast in Me centers around Aggie Wiggs (Danes), a famous author who had her world flipped upside down after the sudden and tragic death of her young son. A shell of the woman she once was, Aggie has become a hermit in the time since her child’s death and hasn’t found the energy or drive to continue writing. Suddenly, her spark is relit after the house next door is purchased by a wealthy and infamous real estate agent named Nile Jarvis (Rhys), who the public largely knows as once being the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. Shelving the horrors of her life, Aggie begins to form a bond with Nile and studies him while searching for the truth about what happened to his missing partner — a quest that may very well prove deadly for the famed author.
