Tennis, ATP Finals 2025: Jannik Sinner becomes first semi-finalist with rampant win over Alexander Zverev

2025 ATP Finals – Sinner finds the edge, secures semi-final spot on home soil
Sinner undoubtedly loves playing in front of the Italian faithful, Wednesday proving to be his seventh consecutive ATP Finals victory in straight sets. With that is a 12th ATP Tour win on the bounce for the second seed, who rolls on into the final four.
All the stars were out for the blockbuster night match, from Olympic doubles champion Jasmine Paolini to Milan football manager Massimiliano Allegri. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds entered battle for the right to go top of the Bjorn Borg Group.
Zverev had to play aggressively if he had any chance of defeating the defending champion for the first time in five meetings. He forced two break points in the opening game, which Sinner salvaged on both occasions with aces down the middle.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Zverev was serving well on the whole, but having not faced a single break point all set, he felt the pressure in a 17-point rally and handed his rival two set points in the 10th game.
Sinner needed a third to clinch the set with a deft net volley, leaving the German to rue his chances and the Italian to move a step closer to the final four. He was now in full swing, though Sinner had to save three break points from 0-40 before holding at 2-1.
The world No. 2 broke Zverev again with a sumptuous cross-court dropshot for 4-2, a fist pump the only emotion shown by the ice-cold Italian. He closed out the match without breaking a sweat to book his passage into the semis of the year-end finals.
