Simon Nemec has immense potential for the future, but with the Devils in win-now mode, they’ve reportedly discussed a trade with the Islanders.
The New Jersey Devils have built one of the deepest and most complete teams in the entire National Hockey League, and with a record of 11-4-1 through their first 16 games, they find themselves in first place in the Metropolitan Division.
With a great combination of youth and experience, this team is built for success in 2025/26 and beyond, although there have been discussions of a major trade on the blue line in recent times.First, it was potentially trading a veteran after the Devils locked up young star Luke Hughes long-term, but now, given the logjam on the blue line, there’s a chance that this team opt to move one of their brightest young stars.
Simon Nemec trade discussed between the Devils and Islanders
According to The Athletic’s Arthur Staples, there have been trade discussions between the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils surrounding Simon Nemec, the former No. 2 overall pick that has struggled to find consistency in the NHL thus far.
However, Staples did clarify that the discussions were initiated by the Islanders, with the Devils not actively shopping the 21-year old, who is on pace for career highs across the board with 9 points through 16 games this season.
Ultimately, the Devils are likely going for it all in 2025/26 with the roster built for success, and while trading Nemec may be a short sighted move, if they get an offer of a player that can help them win right now, a trade certainly isn’t out of the question at some point this season.
