History
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team picked up an emphatic win in its home opener with a 100-74 blowout Sunday night at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH evened its record at 1-1, rebounding from its close one-point road loss at Oregon to open the year.
UH conceded a three-pointer by the Lions (1-2) to start the game, but after that it was all ‘Bows. UH led nearly from wire-to-wire, taking a 21-point lead by halftime in a win fueled by a perpetual march to the free throw line. The ‘Bows set new program records for free throws made (37) and attempted (54), the latter of which was a record that stood for more than 55 years.
In the end, UH hit the century mark for the first time in eight years, fittingly on a free throw by Hunter Carter with 32 seconds left. Eleven of 12 players made their way into the scoring column with seven different Rainbow Warriors finishing in double figures.

Hunter Erickson and Dre Bullock led the way with 15 points each. Erickson, who also added three assists, was perfect from the floor. The graduate transfer from Utah went 5-of-5 from the floor and hit all three of his three-point attempts, while also draining a pair of free throws. Isaac Johnson also chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
UH shot a dismal 3-of-15 from the field to start the game but more than made up for it at the free throw line. UH was in the bonus a little more than five minutes into the game and by the end of the half had drawn 22 ETAMU fouls and shot an astounding 34 free throws (22 made). The ‘Bows ended the half on an 18-3 run – including 13 unanswered points – to take a commanding 51-30 lead at the break.

The ‘Bows didn’t let up in the second half as their lead ballooned to as many as 33 points.UH overcame its slow offensive start to shoot 55 percent for the game, including 7-of-16 on threes.
The Rainbow Warriors will continue its string of 11 straight home games with the 59th edition of the OUTRIGGER Rainbow Classic, Nov. 12, 14 and 15. UH kicks off the three-day tourney on Wednesday with a matchup versus Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
