FX Cancels ‘English Teacher’ After 2 Seasons

English Teacher will be ending after two seasons.

FX has decided not to renew the sitcom, created by Brian Jordan Alvarez, who also stars in the show, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

English Teacher, set in Austin, follows gay high school English teacher Evan Marquez (Alvarez) as he tries to balance his professional and personal life, as well as the demands of the students and their parents, alongside his co-workers.

Other castmembers included Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton and Carmen Christopher. In addition to Alvarez, Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender and Zach Dunn also executive produced the show.

The 10-episode second season of English Teacher premiered in September 2025. FX didn’t share the reason behind the cancellation.

A few months before it was announced in February 2025 that the series had scored a second season, Alvarez was accused of sexual assault by Jon Ebeling. They had worked together on a web series titled The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo in the mid-2010s.

Ebeling alleged Alvarez assaulted him while filming the series, Vulture reported at the time. Alvarez, through his attorney, denied the claims.

“We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns,” FX wrote in a statement following the Vulture story. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
