‘English Teacher’ Canceled By FX After 2 Seasons

EXCLUSIVE: FX has opted not to proceed with a third season of its comedy series English Teacher. The news comes a month and a half after Season 2 of the series created by Brian Jordan Alvarez was released. Alvarez also stars along with Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Collantoni, Sean Patton and Carmen Christopher.
Season 2 followed Evan Marquez (Alvarez) as he continued to navigate his way through the political minefield known as the American high school. Back with Evan — though not always on his side — were his best friend Gwen (Koenig), gym teacher Markie (Patton), wild card guidance counselor Rick (Christopher) and constantly terrified Principal Grant Moretti (Colantoni).
English Teacher is executive produced by Alvarez, Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean and Jake Bender & Zach Dunn. The series is produced by FX Productions.
FX took awhile before picking up a second season of English Teacher, with the renewal coming four months after the Season 1 finale. The series has been well reviewed — 98% Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1; 100% for Season 2 — with the first season receiving nominations for Critics Choice, Film Independent Spirit Awards, and WGA Awards. But the series also came under scrutiny over sexual assault allegations against Alvarez made by former colleague Jon Ebeling.
