Queensland Government to boost agritourism with new planning guidance

Posted on November 11th, 2025
Last week the Queensland Government released new planning guidance that encourages councils to support agritourism ventures, including farm stays, cellar doors and food experiences through their local planning schemes.
The changes mean Councils now have the information they need to take advantage and improve regional tourism and it’s all part of the 20-year tourism plan – Destination 2045.
Agritourism provides farmers with opportunities to diversify income streams and improve on-farm profitability. It also fosters community identity, promotes sustainable environmental practices, builds greater appreciation and engagement in agricultural practices, and strengthens regional economies.
The Queensland Government developed the guidance in consultation with Agritourism Queensland, the Queensland Farmers Federation, the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), and several councils.
The guidance is available at: Boosting regional economies through Agritourism | Planning
