Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico opened up on the World Champions’ current patch of form with the FIFA World Cup 2026 looming large on the horizon.
Tagliafico, who was part of the WC-winning Albiceleste unit in Qatar, said that the champions would have to prove their quality every time they step onto the pitch to justify the champions tag.
“From 1 to 10, I think we’re at a 5. Not too little, not too much,” he said.
“Today people are a bit angrier at us, and honestly we also caused that with our arrogance. As world champions, we have to prove it,” the full-back added.
“That bit of cheekiness is good, and it makes others end up respecting us. If people are talking, it’s because things are going well. We have to keep working, especially on the pitch,” the 33-year-old said.
“I hope the match against Spain happens, they’re one of the best teams. But it has nothing to do with what can happen at the World Cup, it’s just a single match,” he added.
“The World Cup is something different whether you win or lose against Spain doesn’t matter. But facing them gives you an idea of what level you’re at,” the Lyon star concluded.
