Met Éireann Weather Warnings Explained

Forecasters have issued a Status Orange rain warning for three counties tomorrow.

Significant flooding and hazardous travelling conditions are expected as Dublin, Wexford and Wicklow are set to be on high alert from 2pm on Friday, until 11am on Saturday.

Met Éireann forecasters say there will be “significant rainfall accumulations, especially on high ground and exposed areas”.

They have also issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Dublin, Louth, Wexford and Wicklow from 12pm on Friday until 4am on Saturday.

Strong and gusty north-easterly winds are forecast, with possible wind-related debris and difficult travelling conditions.

They have also issued separate Status Yellow rain warnings for 13 other counties.

Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford will be under the warning from 9am on Friday, which will stay in place until 9am on Saturday.

Another Status Yellow warning will be in place from 11am tomorrow until 11am on Saturday for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow.

Meanwhile, today the rain will move northwards across the country through the day, with some turning heavy, but there might be occasional sunny periods.

The highest temperatures will range between 7 and 15C from north to south.

It will be mostly cloudy early tonight, with scattered showers, some of which will turn heavy.

Rain and drizzle will move up from the south overnight, staying mainly in the south and east.

A breezy night will see temperatures dropping to 5 and 11C, remaining the coldest in Connacht and Ulster.

In an earlier forecast, Met Éireann meteorologist Linda Hughes added: “There’ll be some unsettled weather at times over the next few days, with low pressure never too far away.”.
