Cancelled Flights by AENA in Santa Cruz de Tenerife Province

The effects of the Claudia storm are now becoming evident in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A number of flights originating or destined for the region’s airports are experiencing cancellations or delays. Since this afternoon, AENA has reported that several flights will remain suspended while the storm persists.

Heavy rains and strong gusts of wind have forced numerous flights to be cancelled or diverted today. The situation has caused incidents at all three airports: Tenerife North, Tenerife South, and La Palma Airport, where AENA and the airlines are urging passengers to check the status of their flights before travelling.

At La Palma Airport, delays are occurring, which could lengthen if atmospheric instability continues. According to information provided by AENA, a flight from Binter from Gran Canaria to La Palma was forced to return to its point of origin due to adverse weather conditions. Additionally, another Cóndor airline aircraft due to land at 15:20 has been diverted to Tenerife South and is expected to land in the next few minutes.

This airport has also welcomed diverted flights from La Palma Airport before operations were cancelled and redirected there. Most easyJet flights and some arrivals from Ryanair are being diverted to the neighbouring island.

Gran Canaria Receiving Many Diverted Flights

Furthermore, seven flights bound for Tenerife North, Tenerife South, and Fuerteventura have been diverted to Gran Canaria, due to the inability to land safely because of strong crosswinds and poor visibility.

AENA has stated that the priority is to ensure the safety of passengers and crews, hence airlines are rescheduling connections as conditions improve. In this context, airlines are advising travellers not to go to the airport without confirming the status of their flight first and to stay informed through official channels and the airlines’ social media.
