Official: Anguissa has high grade lesion, confirm Napoli

In an extraordinary twist, just after reports reassuring the Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa injury was not serious, Napoli confirmed another high grade lesion and several months out.

The midfielder had sustained the muscular injury on international duty with Cameroon and returned early for tests.

La Repubblica released a report insisting that Napoli were breathing a sigh of relief, as there was no lesion suspected, only a small strain.

Mixed reports on Anguissa injury spark confusion

However, that is totally different to the official statement that came from Napoli a couple of hours later.

This confirms Anguissa has sustained a high grade lesion to the femoral bicep in the left thigh.

It is not dissimilar to the type of injury affecting fellow Napoli teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

That also means he too will be out of action for months rather than weeks, and it is another huge blow for the Partenopei and Antonio Conte.

Anguissa turns 30 on Sunday and has been a key figure for Napoli this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 15 appearances between Serie A and the Champions League.
