Coronation Street fans have issued a demand for David and Shona Platt’s future after they were rocked by devastating news about their unborn child.
Their happy baby news was revealed after David discovered a pregnancy test he believed belonged to Betsy Swain as he engaged in a bin war with his new neighbours.
Convinced it belonged to the teen David showed his sister, Sarah Platt, and offered some snarky comments. But when she suggested it might be his daughter, Lily’s, who wasn’t feeling well, his glee turned to horror.
After he had confronted Lily, Shona railed at her husband for confronting Lily, as she revealed that the pregnancy test was hers and that they are expecting their first child together.
But earlier this week, after David almost missed their latest baby scan, he and Shona were seen gazing at their baby on the monitor, only for the sonographer’s face to cloud before they shared they’d found a mass on the baby’s neck.
It is then on Wednesday (November 12) that a unique, heart-wrenching episode aired, in which the first half hour follows both Shona and David’s journey as they prepare to set off to see the consultant to find out more about what their baby may be up against.
Viewers first saw the morning from Shona’s point of view as the emotional mum-to-be wondered how David could be so casual when their baby’s life could be at risk.

As they prepared to head for their scan, Shona was seen ordering David out of the car, insisting she didn’t want him with her at the hospital and that she could do it on her own.
Those watching then saw the same timeline, but from David’s point of view as he focussed on preparing himself for the worst, alongside his determination to be strong for Shona.
Once back in present time, the consultant confirmed the presence of a tumour on the baby’s neck, and explained that if they decide to continue with the pregnancy, Shona will have to undergo complex surgery.
As the consultant revealsed that their daughter’s tumour could be cancerous, Shona became distracted by the confirmation they were having a baby girl and wanted to continue on as normal, while David appeared concerned for what was ahead of them.
