Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate Samrat Choudhary has taken a strong lead in the Tarapur constituency as counting continues for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. After 17 rounds, Choudhary is ahead of Arun Kumar by more than 22,000 votes.
The Tarapur constituency has long been a key stronghold for the Choudhary family. Samrat Choudhary’s father, Shakuni Choudhary, held this seat earlier—first winning in 1985 as an Independent and again in 1990 on a Congress ticket. With this strong political legacy, the seat carries considerable significance for the family. Although Samrat currently maintains a lead, the contest remains intense as counting progresses.
Samrat Choudhary Early Life and Family Background
Samrat Choudhary was born on November 16, 1968, in Lakhanpur village, Munger. He comes from a deeply political family—his father, Shakuni Choudhary, served as a six-time MLA and also as an MP, while his mother, Parvati Devi, was an MLA representing the Tarapur constituency.
Education
Choudhary completed his early schooling in his hometown and later pursued higher studies at Madurai Kamaraj University.

Samrat Choudhary Entry Into Politics
He began his political journey in 1990. In May 1999, during the Rabri Devi government, he was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture in Bihar.
Legislative Career
Choudhary was elected as an MLA twice from the Parbatta constituency, first in 2000 and again in 2010. That same year, he took on the role of the chief whip of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly.
Ministerial Roles
On June 2, 2014, he assumed office as the Minister of Urban Development and Housing.
Samrat Choudhary Rise in BJP Leadership
In March 2023, Samrat Choudhary was chosen as the BJP Bihar state president, succeeding Sanjay Jaiswal. He was selected with the strategic aim of strengthening the party’s OBC outreach, particularly among the Koeri/Kushwaha community.
