‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington Says ‘Survival Is Not Guaranteed For A Lot of Us’ After Shocking Midseason Finale

Camilla Luddington is opening up about the shocking and dramatic Grey’s Anatomy midseason finale and what she has to say might make fans very worried.

Spoilers ahead for the season 22 episode “When I Crash.”

Camilla‘s character Jo is heavily pregnant with her and Link’s (Chris Carmack) twins, but in the latest episode, she faces potentially dire complications that leave her and her children’s fate on a cliffhanger.

Jo experiences serious pregnancy troubles and gets diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy. Medicine doesn’t work, so the doctors rush to get Jo into surgery and deliver the babies seven weeks early via C-Section.

Winston (Anthony Hill) is the surgeon prepared to carry out the surgery, and he hasn’t done this specific procedure in years, causing tension over whether he can safely carry it out.

Speaking with The Wrap, Camilla shared that she had to actually “emotionally prepare” herself for this episode because of how “dark” it gets.

“This one and then the next episode after this … it’s really dark,” she said.

Fans will have to wait until January for the show to return as it enters its midseason hiatus and the 41-year-old actress has a somewhat troubling message for fans on managing the wait.

“If there’s one word to sit on it would be ‘brutal.’ Emotionally prepare because the next episode coming up after this, it is worse, to be honest. So yeah, just drink a lot of wine and try to compartmentalize this is not happening on Grey’s Anatomy until January,” she shared.

She even says “this is a situation where everything hangs in the balance and survival is not guaranteed for a lot of us involved. The cost of a mistake could be everything,” she added. “Emotionally prepare, because the next episode … it’s worse, to be honest.”

Even more upsetting is that the interviewer asked Camilla about an idea she had to bring Katherine Heigl back but because the storyline would involve Jo, she doesn’t know if she “can pitch the storyline right now, because it would involve Jo being there. And it would mean a continuation of that character, and that’s not something I can really talk about right now.”

That does not sound promising for Jo’s future on the show, though it would also be a heavy loss especially considering the show already killed off a big character this season with Natalie Morales‘ Dr. Monica Beltran.
