The Montreal Canadiens recalled forward Jared Davidson from the Laval Rocket, the team announced on Friday.
The team did not have an update on Alex Newhook’s status, but the team only had 12 forwards and this likely means that Newhook is out at least for Saturday’s game, which would be a safe assumption.
This is Davidson’s first recall to the NHL, and if he plays would make his NHL debut. He has nine goals and two assists in 13 AHL games this season. He is tied for the AHL goal-scoring lead. He has 44 goals and 28 assists in 120 career AHL games.
He was the team’s fifth-round pick in 2022, 130th overall. He will become the fourth player from that draft class to make his NHL debut, joining Juraj Slafkovský, Owen Beck, and Lane Hutson. The class also has NHL hopefuls in Adam Engström, Filip Mešár, and Vinzenz Rohrer.
The Canadiens host the Boston Bruins on Saturday at the Bell Centre. The Rocket have games on Saturday and Sunday in Hartford and Providence.
