Will Smith’s Rare Marriage Update Proves He & Jada Pinkett Smith Are More Complicated Than Ever

Will Smith has kept a relatively low profile over the last few years, but a Nov. 12 Instagram post from his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, just gave a clue about his second marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith.
The blended family came together to celebrate Will and Zampino’s son, Trey’s 33rd birthday. The first snapshot in the carousel was of the 57-year-old Oscar winner standing next to Zampino, Trey, Jada, and Jada and Will’s son, Jaden. Since the married, but somewhat estranged, duo were not cozying up next to each other, it appears that they are still leading separate lives.

The duo walked down the aisle in 1997, but there were questions about their union after Jada’s “entanglement” with singer August Alsina was revealed in 2020. Jada revealed on the Today show in October 2023 that she and the Men in Black star split in 2016 — seven years earlier.
“By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Jada told Hoda Kotb while promoting her memoir, Worthy. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
She also revealed that they “live separately” from each other, but a Smith family insider gave People an update in January 2025.
“Call it what you want. They are living their own lives but haven’t completely severed ties,” they shared.
There was also a rumored reconciliation in November 2024 when Will and Jada were spotted out at dinner with a friend, per E! Online, and there was a bit of PDA. She was seen wrapping her arms around his tall frame as he went in for a hug, pulling her close. Still, nothing seemed to come from that night out on the town.
Jada supported her husband on the red carpet at the Bad Boys: Ride or Die premiere in May 2024, and Will gushed about her to Entertainment Tonight. I have always been blessed that there has never been a time in my life when I didn’t look to the side and have a ride or die right there,” he said. “Jada is one of the most gangsta ride-or-die’s I’ve ever had.”
Fans may not understand what their relationship entails because it seems complicated, but Will and Jada will always maintain a united front.
