Texas man who threatened Brohm released after father posts $100,000 bond

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Brian S. Mandel was released from jail at 1:48 a.m. November 13 after his father, Charles Scott Mandel posted his $100,000 bond. Brian Mandel had turned himself in on the night of November 11 following his indictment by a Jefferson County Grand Jury on charges of terroristic threatening and extortion for threats he made to UofL football coach Jeff Brohm, his family, and quarterback Miller Moss over the weekend.

Court records show Mandel’s father paid the full cash bond with a check and $25 fee with a credit card shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The Mandel family operates a Corpus Christi security business providing services to DHS and ICE. Federal records show the company has been awarded hundreds of millions worth of contracts. Brian Mandel is also a homebuilder, real estate broker, and serves on the Corpus Christi Planning Commission.

Charles Scott Mandel is running as a Republican for Congress in Texas’ 34th Congressional District seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent Vicente Gonzalez. Federal Election Commission records show Mandel will run against a field of 10 Republicans in the primary election. Mandel’s campaign currently leads his competitors with $1 million cash on hand according to the latest FEC data reported at the end of September. Mandel donated the million to his campaign on September 30th.

Brian Mandel, whose bond conditions prohibit him from gambling, consuming alcohol, or contacting any of the victims in the case, pleaded pleaded not guilty to the seven count indictment during his Jefferson Circuit Court arraignment on November 12. He will be back in Louisville to appear in court in February.
