Ahead of His ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Sequel, David Fincher’s $65 Million Serial Killer Thriller Finds a New Streaming Home

David Fincher is hard at work right now directing the mysterious Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth. But, before he ever took the torch from Quentin Tarantino, he directed a legendary serial killer thriller that just got an exciting streaming update. In 2007, David Fincher teamed up with Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer) and Mark Ruffalo (Task) for Zodiac, the psychological thriller/police procedural following a group of detectives and a cartoonist who become obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac killer. Currently only streaming on Paramount+, Netflix has announced that Zodiac will join its streaming library on November 17.

Zodiac is still hailed to this day as some of David Fincher’s finest work, and the film was beloved by critics and audiences immediately upon its release. Also starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Road House) and Brian Cox (Succession), Zodiac sits at a Certified Fresh 90% from critics and 77% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film only grossed $84 million at the box office against a $65 million budget, making it a flop. It came before the era in America where serial killers are often glamorized after their death — view Ryan Murphy’s new series, Monster.

Based on the book by Robert Graysmith, Fincher directed Zodiac with a script from James Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has a new WWII movie, Nuremberg, arriving in theaters everywhere this weekend. It stars Russell Crowe and Rami Malek. For Fincher, Zodiac came 12 years after he famously directed Se7en, the police procedural starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Three years after Zodiac, he directed The Social Network, and he most recently worked with Michael Fassbender on The Killer.

When Does David Fincher’s Next Movie Come Out?

David Fincher is attached to direct a few upcoming projects, but none of them have official release dates. The first coming is most likely The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is expected to wrap production soon and potentially be released next summer. In addition to Brad Pitt as the titular character, it also stars Timothy Olyphant and Holt McCallany. Fincher is also hard at work on an American Squid Game project, which will be a TV show to be released on Netflix. It’s unclear who will star in the show or when it will be released.

Be sure to watch Zodiac when it arrives on Netflix on November 17 and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
