Clint Hutchison makes his case for or against each of the runners and gives his final judgement on the Orr Stakes

1. JIMMYSTAR: Quality galloper with the premium form going into this event. He comes off a win, ran a very bold race off a wide run in The Everest and has won four of five at Caulfield including 2 of 3 over the course and distance. The one to beat.

5. ANGEL CAPITAL: Looks the other logical strong chance in this event. Brilliant win first-up prior to a luckless run in the Sir Rupert Clarke where he should have won. Not far away off a soft run in The Everest and has solid claims.

2. EVAPORATE: Comes back in trip following a sound run in The Golden Eagle when third to Autumn Glow. Although he hasn’t won here, was solid enough when runner-up to subsequent winner Transatlantic in The Toorak over a mile. Has proven G1 competitive in the past.

7. VINROCK: The blinkers go on following a respectable effort in the Caulfield Guineas. Looks the likely leader and perhaps coming back in trip will assist, but he will need to find a career peak in order to beat the proven WFA rivals.

3. BOSUSTOW: Stepping back up in trip may suit and has the ability to settle handy, but hasn’t shown he is a genuine G1 performer at this stage.

4. PINSTRIPED: His last win came (440 days ago) in the G1 Memsie, so he is good enough, but his form this campaign clearly well below his best.

6 . MIGHTY ULYSSES: Excellent second-up record having won three of five but very hard to catch. Won his only start at this course is a positive. Recent form fair at best.

Looks predominantly a two-horse race with Jimmystar and Angel Capital bringing the best form to this race. The former had a tougher run in The Everest and beat home Angel Capital, but there was not a lot between them. The step to 1400m probably suits both as much as each other, with a preference for Jimmystar over Angel Capital if they hold their current form. Evaporate looks the logical third pick and his recent form has been sound enough. Hard to see anything else winning.
