Curry’s 49-point explosion ties Michael Jordan’s record for 40-point games

Stephen Curry scored 49 points to carry the Golden State Warriors to a thrilling win over the San Antonio Spurs. Just two days earlier, he had torched the same Spurs team for 46 points — totaling 95 points across two games at age 37.
Curry’s performance also tied him with Michael Jordan for the most 40-point games since turning 30, marking his 44th such outing. It was his first back-to-back 40-point performance since 2022.
He credited much of his energy to Steve Kerr’s pregame talk, which he said set the tone for the night.
“He rarely talks about his Chicago days, and he gave some references to how they approached their team and their identity by comparisons to how a band comes together and everybody playing their role,” Curry said.
“You got your lead singers, you got your bass, your acoustic, your electric, whatever. You got your drummers. You got the stagehands. You got the guy who’s plugging in the speakers. He said he was just above plugging in the speaker guy,” Curry added with a smile.
Curry happily admitted he was taking center stage.
“I was Hayley Williams in Paramore tonight,” he joked.
