Basketball England statement on BBF

Statement from Basketball England Chair Paul Blanchard:
Following today’s announcement from the British Basketball Federation (BBF) that the organisation will cease to trade and go into liquidation the sport in this country clearly faces a difficult situation and a period of uncertainty.
One thing that is certain, however, is that Basketball England, together with fellow Home Country Associations, Basketball Scotland and Basketball Wales and other key stakeholders, will continue to work together to support the Great Britain national teams in their upcoming fixtures.
The women play in EuroBasket qualifiers in Austria tomorrow and Norway on Tuesday following their fantastic win in Manchester this week – and the men host Lithuania on 27 November and travel to Iceland on 30 November in World Cup European Qualifiers.
Our main priority and key focus will, with our partners, including Super League Basketball, be making sure those games are successfully delivered and that the players are given the best opportunity to perform.
Moving forward, it is vital that the game comes together to agree the best way for the sport to be governed and managed in Great Britain.
That will be decided via discussion with all partners and collaboration, plus the input of FIBA, DCMS, UK Sport and Sport England.
In the meantime, we will be doing everything in our power to support our Great Britain teams.
