UTSA Roadrunners to take on Charlotte in AAC football matchup

In a matchup of teams looking to rebound from recent losses, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners will face off against the Charlotte 49ers on Nov. 15 at 12 p.m. EST. The game will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
Charlotte, with a record of 1-8, has struggled this season, particularly on defense, where they allow an average of 470 yards per game, ranking 135th in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Their offense has also faced challenges, managing only 18 points per game, placing them 126th in scoring. Quarterback Grayson Loftis has thrown for 1,045 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 53.2% of his passes. The 49ers’ rushing attack is led by Rod Gainey Jr., who has 215 yards on 56 carries and one touchdown, while Javen Nicholas leads the receiving corps with 631 yards and five touchdowns on 44 catches.
UTSA, holding a 4-5 record, boasts a more balanced offensive attack, averaging 399.8 yards per game, which ranks them 60th in the FBS. Quarterback Owen McCown has been a standout performer, passing for 1,875 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 67.5% of his passes. Robert Henry leads the Roadrunners’ ground game with 982 yards and nine touchdowns on 130 carries, while Devin McCuin has contributed 467 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 45 catches.
Defensively, UTSA has allowed 409.3 yards per game, ranking 109th in the FBS. They have a +3 turnover margin, which is significantly better than Charlotte’s -9 margin. However, UTSA has struggled with penalties, averaging 71.4 penalty yards per game, the highest in the FBS.
Both teams are coming off losses. Charlotte was defeated by East Carolina 48-22 on Nov. 8, with Loftis throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns. UTSA fell to South Florida 55-23 on Nov. 6, with McCown passing for 200 yards and one touchdown.
Looking ahead, Charlotte will face a tough challenge against No. 5 Georgia on Nov. 22, while UTSA will host East Carolina on the same day.
