Johannes Radebe has said he knew he and Alex Kingston had ‘something special’ before their latest Strictly Come Dancing performance left her fighting tears.

The actress was overcome with emotion following her most recent routine in the ballroom last Saturday night (November 8) alongside her professional dancer.

Alex, famed for roles in ER and Doctor Who, and Johannes performed to dramatic Paso Doble to ‘Amparito Roca’ by Jamie Texidor, a traditional track without lyrics, which she admitted was ‘difficult’.

It was afterwards that a teary Alex host Claudia Winkleman that she is “numerically dyslexic” and has therefore struggled to dance to music without words to follow, like she had been doing in the previous weeks.

It came after the judges noted that Alex didn’t appear as confident as she had in previous weeks, with Motsi Mabuse noting that this marked “the first time that I’ve felt a little bit of insecurity from you”.

She also suggested that the performance “lacked spatial awareness and fire”, while Craig Revel Horwood more harshly branded the performance “a little bit middle of the road”.

Appearing on It Takes Two on Thursday (November 13), host Janette Manrara asked if the slight dip in her performance could have been a “positive” thing in hindsight, to which Alex agreed that it has made her “stronger”.

She said: “I think nobody is not vulnerable. I think everybody will have a moment. Because that is part of the journey, isn’t it? If you have never danced before then there is always going to be a point at which you have a hiccup.

“It’s not a nice feeling. But, at the same time, it just makes you stronger.”

When Janette asked Johannes if he thought they were “close” to having something special, he admitted: “Listen, I knew I had something special by Wednesday.

“And i said to Alex that I wish we had one more day. One more day to just embed it in our bodies because that is what normally happens.

“But it just took a while longer with the paso doble. And that was just a little bit of a struggle. If we had one more day, we would have been amazing.”

Despite the ‘hiccup’ in their journey, Alex and Johannes were seen safely making it through to week eight of the hit dance show’s 2025 series during Sunday’s (November 9) results show.

As the next live show arrives this Saturday (November 15) night, Alex and Johannes will be performing a Waltz to ‘Weekend In New England’ by Barry Manilow.
