BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing opened with a “very important” announcement by host Tess Daly. Tess issued the announcement at the top of the programme before the judging panel and dancers were introduced.
Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas cast their eye over the contestants as they take on the ballroom. Tess Daly shares hosting duties with Claudia Winkleman, although pair previously confirmed this will be their final year together after stepping down from the role.
As the competition heats up, Tess took a moment to remind the studio audience and viewers at home of just how important this week will be.
Speaking to camera, Tess opened the show saying: “Welcome to Strictly Come Dancing and a very important week in the ballroom.” Claudia said: “Tonight, our eight couples dance for their place in Blackpool.”
Tess added: “All of our remaining celebrities have already scored nines or tens so far this series. Everyone is worthy of dancing on that world famous floor but who makes it there really is down to you.”

This week is a pivotal moment in the competition as it was dictate which of the celebrities have the skills to make it to the legendary Blackpool Tower ballroom where the tail end of the series if filmed.
Going to Blackpool is seen as the biggest success in the competition other than lifting the glitterball trophy. Only seven celebrities will make it.
Collectively in a video segment, the judging panel said: “The Blackpool Tower ballroom is important to every person who dances around the world. Every dancer wants to set their foot on that magical floor.

Head judge Shirley Ballas added: “Blackpool is so special to me because I’ve been going there since I was seven years old. The minute I step into the ballroom I go all fuzzy and warm inside. For me, it’s just the best place on earth.”
The judges and professional dancers shared anecdotes from their time in the Blackpool Tower ballroom. Tess and Claudia brought the show back to its typical format, welcoming the first of tonight’s dancers.
