Making his second appearance under the UFC banner, Camilo had little difficulty in putting “Slava Claus” on the canvas, recognizing the path of least resistance and going to the takedown well multiple times. Though he faded as the fight progressed and Borshchev landed the better strikes across the back half of the contest, Camilo was able to land some solid shots of his own and keep the Russian veteran at bay enough to find his way to the finish line.
All three judges scored the fight in favor of Camilo, awarding him the first two rounds. While his output slowed as the time ticked off the clock, it’s worth remembering that the 24-year-old Brazilian ventured to Abu Dhabi towards the end of last month for a fight that was scuttled late in the week. All that travel and trying to peak twice in such a short period is a serious challenge, but Camilo was able to overcome it and garner his initial UFC win.
