“Every day I’m more certain I put you to sleep” – Ilia Topuria slams “boring” Islam Makhachev after latter’s incredible UFC 322 win

Ilia Topuria fired with fresh shots at Islam Makhachev after the Dagestani fighter dominated Jack Della Maddalena to capture the welterweight throne. The lightweight champion called Makhachev predictable, dull, and beatable while insisting he would finish him if they ever met.
Topuria took to X and wrote:
“Jack needs an entire camp dedicated just to wrestling. What a disappointment of a champion. You should go to Georgia to learn something. Islam, you need something you can’t train: emotion. You’re the most boring thing in this game. Every day I’m more certain I put you to sleep.”

Makhachev’s win over Della Maddalena came through steady control. From the opening minute, he dictated the tempo with measured pressure and well-timed entries. The first round set the tone as he tripped Maddalena to the mat and kept him there with tight half-guard pressure and short punches. The illegal upkick at the horn was the only spark Maddalena could muster.
The second round only widened the gap. Makhachev mixed kicks and straight shots before dragging the fight down again. Maddalena spent long stretches pinned to the canvas, unable to clear his hips or threaten any real scramble. Makhachev stayed patient, landing elbows and riding every attempt to move.
Maddalena tried to shift the momentum in the third with body work and forward pressure, but a clean level change put him back on the mat. Makhachev chipped away with punches and elbows while working through guard. The pattern repeated in the fourth as Makhachev floated across positions, slipped to the back, and locked a body triangle that drained whatever hope was left.
The final round brought no twist. Maddalena pressed forward out of desperation, only for Makhachev to take him down inside thirty seconds. Another sweep of control followed as the crowd roared for the Dagestani. Maddalena stood up at the horn, but the fight had long been decided. A clean sweep on all three scorecards confirmed Makhachev as the new 170-pound champion.
