While many around the world glowed about Islam Makahchev’s UFC 322 performance, Ilia Topuria offered a different take.
Minutes after the main event ended Saturday, Topuria ripped both Makhachev and Della Maddalena, offering up different criticisms for each fighter for their performances at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“Jack needs an entire camp dedicated just to wrestling,” Topuria wrote on X. “What a disappointment of a champion. You should go to Georgia to learn something.
“Islam, you need something you can’t train: emotion. You’re the most boring thing in this game. Every day I’m more certain I put you to sleep.”
Makhachev’s next move is not known and neither is Topuria’s. Both fighters recently vacated titles, shifted up in weight, and won a title in their new weight classes.
A former featherweight champion, Topuria captured vacant lightweight gold with a win over Charles Oliveira after Makhachev vacated the title. Saturday, Makhachev won welterweight gold with a dominant unanimous decision win over Della Maddalena.
