Mark Wahlberg’s Flight Risk Heads to HBO Max on November 26

Mark Wahlberg’s latest film, Play Dirty, has been making waves on the streaming charts for Prime Video. Earlier this year, the actor also collaborated with Mel Gibson on an aviation thriller titled Flight Risk, which has recently secured a new home for streaming. In Flight Risk, Wahlberg stars alongside Topher Grace and Michelle Dockery, portraying a pilot tasked with transporting an Air Marshal and a fugitive to trial. However, the journey unfolds amidst challenges in the Alaskan wilderness.

Despite its intriguing premise and a notable cast, Flight Risk has not fared well with critics, earning a mere 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In contrast, audience reception has been slightly more favorable, with a score of 62% on the Popcornmeter. The film grossed $48 million at the box office, successfully surpassing its $25 million budget, thus avoiding the label of a flop for Lionsgate. One interesting tidbit from the production is that Wahlberg opted to shave his head for the role instead of using a bald cap, believing the cap would look unrealistic.

This isn’t the first time Wahlberg and Gibson have shared the screen. The pair previously showcased their comedic chemistry in the Daddy’s Home franchise and took on a more dramatic narrative in Father Stu. Currently, Gibson is busy working on the next installments of Passion of the Christ, which may delay any future collaborations with Wahlberg. Nevertheless, Wahlberg has a number of projects lined up, including a film titled The Canyon, expected to debut next year.

In the immediate future, Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as Dan Morgan in the The Family Plan 2, premiering on Apple TV on November 21. This sequel will not be released in theaters, and will also feature Kit Harington from Game of Thrones and Michelle Monaghan, who will return as Jessica Morgan. Viewers can look forward to Flight Risk making its debut on HBO Max on November 26, offering an opportunity for audiences to catch this thriller.
