However, the match turned on its head when Indian bowlers ripped through South Africa’s second innings to leave them struggling at 93/7 at stumps. Ravindra Jadeja’s superb spell of 4 wickets has put India in full control and they will go into Day 3 with hope to finish the game early.
Will Shubman Gill play?
Meanwhile, Indian skipper
Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the remainder of the game after he was taken to the hospital with a neck injury. The BCCI has said that the Indian skipper is hospitalised and will miss the remainder of the Kolkata Test.
“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day’s play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” the BCCI said.
With South Africa effectively 63/7 and their captain Temba Bavuma fighting alone on 29 not out, India will hope to wrap up the innings quickly on Day 3 and chase a small target to take a 1-0 lead in the series. However, it won’t be easy for the Indian batters either, as we saw in the previous innings.
