How can India qualify for the WTC final 2027? Qualification scenario, points and wins required to reach World Test Championship final

After South Africa’s WTC title win earlier this year, the new cycle of the World Test Championship is underway as the teams fight to claim the ultimate glory.

India started their campaign decently with two wins and a draw under their name in their tour to England. While India has been one of the most dominating red-ball sides, they still haven’t won a WTC title.

They continued their good work against the West Indies at home by winning the two-match Test series 2-0. The side, however, faltered against the world champions, South Africa, in the first test at home, losing a low-scoring thriller by 31 runs.

India’s series-leveling effort in England has ensured that they have started this cycle of the WTC on a good note. The side’s biggest challenges during the cycle were the England tour and the upcoming New Zealand and Australia tour, which will take place at the end of 2026.

After a very solid display in England, the side was high on confidence for the four Tests at home. India missed out on a final spot last time around as South Africa and Australia made it to the championship game with a Point percentage of 69.44 and 63.73

After their defeat against South Africa in Kolkata, the side will now be keen on registering a win in their last home Test of the season in Guwahati.

Matches remaining for India: 10 Tests
