One dead after two-plane collision in South Glengarry

One person was dead after two planes collided in South Glengarry on Saturday.

According to a news release by the Ontario Provincial Police, officers responded to a report of a collision involving two small planes in the area just north of Cornwall at around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

One plane landed safely, the release said, while the other crashed in a wooded area. The pilot of that aircraft was declared deceased at the scene.

The OPP said that the Transportation Safety Board of Canada had been notified about the fatal crash and that TSB officials would be taking charge of the investigation.

In a prepared statement, the safety board said it had “deployed a team of investigators to the site of a mid-air collision involving two small aircraft that occurred near Cornwall, Ontario. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.”

South Glengarry is a bit more than 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
