Iceland Coach Confident Ahead of Ukraine World Cup Qualifier

On the eve of the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Ukraine and Iceland, which will take place today in Warsaw starting at 19:00 Kyiv time, the head coach of our opponent Arnar Gunnlaugsson spoke to the media.
According to the Ukrainian Association of Football’s press service, the coach expressed confidence that the anticipated contest would be of high quality.
“Everyone understands how important the upcoming game is for us and for Ukraine. For both teams, the match will be decisive, and I hope you will see a truly dramatic encounter with a battle for all 90 minutes. I am really looking forward to this match. Regarding the first match against the Ukrainians. Yes, we conceded five goals, but I can say that it was one of the Iceland national team’s best matches. If you analyze the conceded goals, such goals happen very rarely: an incredibly well-executed free-kick, shots from difficult positions – these are moments that are realized once in a thousand years. I see that with every international window we are improving. I am pleased with my team. I am confident you will see a very serious and high-quality contest. And we also expect that the teams will show their maximum,” – noted Gunnlaugsson.
