Football Bet of the Day: Wander to Warsaw for goals on Sunday

Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the European World Cup qualifiers, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Ukraine vs Iceland
🏆 World Cup qualifying
⏰ Sunday 16 November, 17:00
Two nations battling it out for the playoff spot in Group D meet in neutral Warsaw on Sunday evening as Ukraine take on Iceland in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Ukraine endured a slugging start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, as a 0-2 defeat at ‘home’ to France was followed up by a 1-1 draw away at struggling Azerbaijan.
Serhiy Rebrov’s men did have a successful October, winning an eight-goal thriller in Reykjavik, before defeating Azerbaijan 2-1, but a 4-0 thrashing against France on Friday night means they have slipped down into third position in Group D.
Iceland opened up their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Azerbaijan, but defeats away in France and at home to Ukraine saw their playoff hopes take a real hit.
However, Hakon Haraldsson’s visitors went on to claim a shock 2-2 draw at home to France, before a 0-2 victory in Baku over Azerbaijan saw the Scandinavian nation leapfrog Ukraine into second position in Group D, knowing that if they avoid defeat in Warsaw they will secure the playoff spot.
Bet of the Day
Ukraine’s previous 13 competitive internationals have averaged 3.23 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score paying out in nine (69%) of them, only failing to land in that run against France (twice), away at Belgium and at home to Georgia.
Iceland have been good fun to follow for goals in the past couple of years, with their last 15 competitive clashes averaging an eye-catching 4.00 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in 11 (73%) of them, only failing to land in that spell in victories home and away over Montenegro and Azerbaijan.
These two nations have faced off twice in the past 20 months, with Both Teams to Score landing on each occasion – including a crazy eight-goal thriller in the reverse fixture in this group just last month – and whilst Sunday’s might not be as high-scoring, I like the chances of both getting on the scoresheet.
