Riemer not worried before crucial WC-clash: ‘The Scots couldn’t handle going forward’

After watching Scotland’s defeat against Greece in the wake of Denmark’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Belarus, the Danish national team coach, Brian Riemer, isn’t worried ahead of Tuesday’s decisive World Cup qualifying clash in Glasgow.

“The Scots were in big trouble – big, big trouble. Exactly what I hoped for would happen. They had to come forward on the pitch, and they couldn’t handle that. They came back into the match at the end through a set piece, which we also have to be aware of.”

“They are a team that you have to take seriously, but we have more quality. However, not much should go wrong before they can compete with us. So we have to deliver a top performance to ensure our qualification for the World Cup”, said Riemer to the Danish media on Sunday.

Scotland will have great support behind them on Tuesday evening, as Hampden Park is sold out. Brian Riemer also expects intense pressure from the start.

“I expect that they will come out firing from the start, but then they will turn into the Scottish team that we know. If it’s still tied at the end, they’ll try to give it a good shot. That’s how I imagine the match will be.”

“I think they’re fine with the fact that they haven’t necessarily decided the game after ten minutes. If it’s 0-0 with 15 minutes left, they’ll have to throw everything at it”, said Brian Riemer.

Denmark is currently struggling to contain a stomach virus in the camp, which has sidelined Rasmus Hojlund and Joachim Andersen.

On Sunday and Monday, the national team trains in Helsingor, before the team travels to Glasgow on Monday afternoon.
