New Champions in Turin: Heliovaara and Patten capture maiden ATP Finals doubles title

The Men’s Doubles final of the ATP Finals has been decided, with Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten becoming the new champions. The two-time Grand Slam champions (Wimbledon 2024, Australian Open 2025) defeated the all-British pair of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.
This is the first ATP Finals title for both players, who were eliminated in 2024 by the then-world No. 1s, Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. This time, they were flawless in the deciding matches to claim one of the most important titles of their careers.
The final was a rematch from the group stage earlier in the week. In that earlier encounter, Salisbury and Skupski prevailed in a tight match, 7-6(7), 3-6, [10-7]. The Brits advanced as group winners and then eliminated the then-world No. 1 pair of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool in an all-British showdown.
On the other side, the second seeds came from eliminating the Italians Bolelli/Vavassori (6-4, 6-3) to reach their first-ever ATP Finals final. This time, they were more effective than their rivals and ended up securing the victory with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
The result will also mean an advancement in the rankings for the duo. Although Glasspool and Cash had already secured the year-end No. 1 ranking, Heliovaara and Patten achieved a small climb and are now tied on points as the world No. 3 doubles pair. Further behind are Horacio Zeballos (No. 5) and Marcel Granollers (No. 6)—a former No. 1 pair who were eliminated in the Round Robin stage this week.
Heliovaara and Patten crown unforgettable season
The Heliovaara and Patten partnership finished the season with a combined 50-20 record. They competed in all major tournaments of the year as a permanent duo, which is why they are tied in points in the rankings. In 2025, they achieved the best season of their careers as a doubles team, winning four titles.
“It is hard to describe,” Heliovaara said. “The whole week I have looked at the list of winners, with huge winners, and I thought, if there was ever going to be my name on that, I am going to be so proud. To be there next to Henry is unreal.”
Both players showed great effectiveness in finals, winning 4 of the 5 finals they disputed: the Australian Open, China Open, Paris Masters, and the ATP Finals. They only lost at the ATP 500 Dubai Tennis Championships, when they faced Yuki Bhambri and Alexei Popyrin, conceding the match in a third-set super tie-break.
“The tennis is pretty good but the engagement was something special,” Patten said. “It has been a complete dream for me. Ellie has been here supporting me all week. I am a very happy guy right now. I feel unbelievably lucky to have a partner like her and a partner like Harri.”
In the Turin final, the champions showed clear superiority in serving efficiency. With a 70% first-serve rate, winning 84% of those points, Heliovaara and Patten did not concede a single break point throughout the match. Their opponents, on the other hand, managed only a 58% first-serve rate and won 73% of those points. They faced 8 break points, conceding their serve twice in the title decider.
