Jaguars’ Josh Hines-Allen sets franchise record for sacks vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen breaks down why he showed up
Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen spoke at OTA No. 7, sharing insight into his decision to participate in the voluntary portion of the offseason.
Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher Josh Hines-Allen has moved into sole ownership of the franchise record for sacks.
Hines-Allen, who entered the game tied with Tony Brackens at 55 career sacks, set the record against the Los Angeles Chargers with a sack of quarterback Justin Herbert.
“I’m happy because this is a goal that I set for myself coming into the league,” he said of tying the record and being a sack away from owning it. “Be the best wherever I step foot. I’m on the verge of uttering those words.”
Hines-Allen was drafted No. 7 overall by the Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft. He recorded 10.5 sacks as a rookie and was named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate. He recorded 2.5 sacks the following season after only playing in eight games due to an injury.
He hasn’t had a season below seven sacks since then, recording 7.5 in 2021, seven in 2022, a career-best 17.5 in 2023 and eight in 2024. Entering Sunday’s game, Hines-Allen recorded 319 total tackles in his career with 136 quarterback hits, 11 pass deflections and 10 forced fumbles to go along with the 55 sacks.
He’s a two-time Pro Bowler, making it after the 2023 season in addition to his rookie season. He was also named as an AFC All-Pro by the Pro Football Writers Association after the 2023 season. Hines-Allen has also been named AFC Player of the Week three times in his career.
“It’s instant history. Even though he’s going to downplay it, it’s etched in history,” longtime teammate Dawuane Smoot said. “It’s nothing that anybody can take away and it’s going to be in the record books forever.”
Though he’s a record-setter, if you talk to him, he’s more interested in the team’s success. He gives credit to his teammates for their work and is dialed in on the Jaguars making the postseason.
It’s something that coaches have lauded him for as a leader.
“He’s about as selfless a player as you’re going to run into. He really enjoys all the other parts of the game,” defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile said. “And in terms of the rush and all that stuff, he’s a guy that cares about his teammates.”
From now until his final snap in a Jaguars’ jersey, Hines-Allen will have the opportunity to push the record as far as he can for the next player that tries to break it.
