Not all I’m A Celebrity stars are able to survive the jungle – some have made explosive exits from camp before their time is up, leaving viewers at home shocked

Some I’m A Celebrity stars walked out of the jungle before their time was up.

The ITV hit is back on our screens at 9pm tonight (November 16), with a brave new batch of celebs ready to battle Bushtucker trials and a whole lot of bugs. The likes of Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley, Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp, and Page 3 icon Kelly Brook will be stepping into camp.

But not all of the campmates can hack the jungle. A number of stars have decided to pack their bags and walk out of camp, and some of these exits were nothing short of explosive.

Others have sadly had to withdraw from the show for health or family emergencies. Daily Star have rounded up some of the most notable I’m A Celeb exits.

Gemma Collins

One of the most iconic jungle exits of all time came from none other than The GC. Gemma’s time on the show in 2014 was pretty chaotic to say the least, and getting thrown into jungle jail certainly didn’t help.

Ultimately, after just three days she decided to put an end what she described as “hell”. She told the Bushtucker Telegraph: “I’ve got to go. Three days. I’ve just got to get out of here. You have to get me out of here. It’s making me feel panicked and stressed. It’s not normal.”

Announcing her exit, Gemma declared: “It’s hell, this is hell. I just can’t do it. It ain’t for me. I’ve found it really difficult, waking up and feeling panicked every day. I love myself too much to put myself through this… I have to look after number one. I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! I have to go. I have to start living my life the way I want to live it and this isn’t it.

“It’s a personal decision that I’ve had to make for myself, but it’s the right one. This is right for me and I have to go with that. I’m so out of my comfort zone that it’s made me realise the girl I always was. I’ve become a character, a puppet of Gemma. That is not the real me. No amount of money would keep me here. I feel so amazing and strong and me that I will never, ever regret this. I believe this is the start of me now and nothing’s going to change it.”

Katie Price

Katie made a shock return to the jungle in 2009, following her first stint on the show in 2004. Her first rodeo was rather successful at the time, given that she hooked up with her now-ex Peter Andre.

But her camp comeback didn’t exactly go to plan, and the former glamour model was voted for every single trial possible. When it got to the seventh, she decided to leave.

Katie said: “I’ve done my challenges, people can see I’m genuine. I just don’t want to be here any more.”

Johnny Rotten

The Sex Pistols frontman caused a lot of trouble when he was on the show in 2004. In fact, he got so fed up with the lack of food in camp that he went as far as to start a fire on the borders of camp as a protest.

He’d butted heads with Pricey on the series – and he wasn’t too pleased when she used drinking water to wash her hair. He lost his temper in the Bush Telegraph and kicked the camera after one of his explosive, expletive-filled rants.

The punk legend said: “I’m getting really fed up with it. I’m kind of the spokesperson I suppose, because I’m outspoken. It occupies the centre of attention, but it isn’t happy even with that. The smoke annoys her. It’s the camp fire, b***h. Live with it or swap.

“I’m not here to support a Page 3 f*****g blow up balloon. Right? I f*****g ain’t. No f*****g more. B******s to you. I’ve had enough of this s***

He even called the public “f*****g c***s” on live TV, leading to ITV introducing a time delay to prevent more swearing during the broadcast.

Grace Dent

Food critic and MasterChef star Grace Dent walked from the 2023 series. ITV revealed that she left on “medical grounds”, after friends of the star reportedly said she looked “broken”.

Sources claimed she was totally drained from her nine days in camp. A source told The Sun: “Grace is hugely relieved to be out of I’m A Celeb. She pulled the plug because she couldn’t carry on, mentally or physically. It has been incredibly difficult for her and it all became too much.

“The cold and wet weather, coupled with the punishing tasks and lack of food, took its toll. She has lost a lot of weight and looks gaunt. Her friends just want her to get home.”

Richard Madeley

The GMB presenter’s 2021 stint was cut short when he had to be rushed to hospital. He told viewers in a statement: “I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution”.

However, he couldn’t return to the show, which at the time was taking place at Gwrych Castle in Wales, as he had broken the Covid safety bubble. Richard said he was “gutted” to have to miss out but said he “had the time of my life”.

He added: “I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue… even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends.”

Daniella Westbrook

Ex-EastEnders star Daniella Westbrook left the show after nine days in 2003. She had been a favourite to win the show but she ended up begging viewers to vote for other celebrities so that she could leave.

Daniella, who broke down in tears several times during her jungle journey, had said: “I can’t stand it. I really can’t. I just hate it in here. I thought it would be fun but everyone is starving and starting to feel ill and really weak.”
