Eagles’ underappreciated backup could help Howie Roseman’s next offseason trade

In a turn of events, one Eagle potential bust has turned into a possible offseason trade chip that can garner some value soon.

Despite a slow start to his Eagles career, running back Tank Bigsby appears to have put himself in good standing within the organization, and overall, his NFL career looks promising for the long term. Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon named each NFL team’s most valuable offseason trade chip, and the Eagles could have Bigsby for that.

“A preseason addition via trade from the Jaguars, Bigsby scored eight touchdowns in 2024 and went over 100 yards in place of an injured Saquon Barkley in Week 8. He’s still just 24 and remains under team control for 2026, but there might not be enough room for him with 2024 fourth-round pick Will Shipley also in the mix.”

Eagles might be able to get some good value from Bigsby

Bigsby, who’s in his third NFL season, came to Philadelphia after Week 1 for a couple of late-round draft picks with the Eagles unsure about Will Shipley’s long-term ability. Despite a slow start and some issues on special teams, Bigsby has seemed to find himself in a 2A/2B with Will Shipley.

While Bigsby has taken a reduced role with Philadelphia in his third year of his career, fans may forget that he did “pop” for over 750 rushing yards (1,015 all-purpose yards) in 2024, along with eight touchdowns, being an asset for the team in both the rushing and receiving facets of the game.

Bigsby is still only 24 years old and entering his fourth year of his rookie deal, scheduled to earn $1.4 million in 2026 under team control. With his youth, his team control, his proven track record, and the fact that he recently put together a nine-carry, 104-yard performance back in Week 8 against the New York Giants, Bigsby has all the makings to carry the load for a team in 2026, other than the Eagles.

Philadelphia also has running back Will Shipley under team control for two more seasons (totaling about $2.2 million), and A.J. Dillon, who hasn’t played in over a month, is seeing a diminished role on a one-year deal that expires at the end of the season. With Shipley seemingly capable (and cheaper) to replace Bigsby, Howie Rosman may go that route.

It seems highly likely that Bigsby could be traded to recoup a draft pick that should be used on a running back to complement their room. With Saquon Barkley and Shipley secured for the next couple of years, it seems that Bigsby could be leveraged to add a bit more “cap versatility” for the future.
