Major fire at Little Island seen across Cork Harbour
A major fire broke out at a commercial premises at Little Island as fire crews battled the blaze late into the night. Emergency services remain on the scene this morning.
Bright orange flames and thick plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the industrial warehouse from across Cork Harbour, and residents reported hearing the noise of ‘explosions’ from as far away as Passage West, Mahon and Rochestown. Shocking footage taken from across the harbour shows flames bursting from the top of the building with billowing smoke rising hundreds of metres into the night sky.

The commercial warehouse is located in the Ballytrasna area of Little Island, where there are several industrial premises. It’s understood that a full investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage, which is believed to have destroyed the property and damaged several vehicles.
The fire blazed late into the night, and Fire Crews from Cork City and County Fire Brigades were on the scene past midnight. One person who heard a blast from over two kilometres across the harbour said: “We are in Passage West and can hear the explosion and see the flames and smoke over here.”
