Danny DeVito Proudly Embraces Role as Doting Grandfather to Two Grandchildren

Danny DeVito has expressed his joy and excitement over his role as a grandfather, revealing that he cannot resist the urge to spend time with his grandchildren. In a recent interview, the beloved star of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” shared his feelings, stating, “I’m a doting grandpa…like I have to restrain myself from jumping in the car and going over, you know what I mean?”

At 80 years old, DeVito proudly boasts two grandchildren, each from his daughters Gracie and Lucy. Gracie’s daughter, Sinclair, is two-and-a-half years old, while Lucy’s son, Carmine, is just 15 months old. DeVito disclosed that he is fortunate to live just 15 minutes away from them, which amplifies his eagerness to be involved in their lives. He affectionately commented, “I find myself needing a fix, getting in the car, calling them up and saying, ‘What’s happening tonight? Can Pop Pop come over for a plate of pasta?’”

The actor is also determined to impart his Italian heritage to his grandkids, humorously stating, “They’re going to talk like, ‘Wanna cup of cawfee?’ It’s going to be all that!” This commitment to instilling cultural identity in his grandchildren reflects his deep connection to his roots.

DeVito shares his children—Lucy, 42, Gracie, 40, and Jake, 38—with his estranged wife, Rhea Perlman. The couple, who separated in 2017 after more than 40 years together, has navigated their relationship by remaining amicable, without pursuing a legal divorce. Perlman acknowledged their enduring bond during a 2019 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” saying, “Danny and I have always loved each other… We really agree on almost everything important.”

The event is set to honor various distinguished individuals, including Dorothea Bongiovi, Drury Thorp, and Shirley Ann Jackson. Proud of his New Jersey roots, DeVito praised the spirit of the people from his home state, proclaiming, “We’ve got hope, we’ve got love, we’re genuinely, like, part of the human race.”

Highlighting the straightforward nature of New Jerseyans, he added, “You get the lowdown from the Jersey people. They’ll tell you whether they like it or not,” emphasizing his appreciation for the genuine character found in the Garden State.
