Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosts the Governors Awards, an event that honours the film industry’s outstanding achievers. In 2025, its Board of Governors will present Academy Honorary Awards to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas, as well as the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to musician and philanthropist Dolly Parton.
“This year’s Governors Awards will celebrate four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact,” said Janet Yang, Academy president. “The Academy’s Board of Governors is honoured to recognise these brilliant artists. Debbie Allen is a trailblazing choreographer and actor, whose work has captivated generations and crossed genres. Tom Cruise’s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all.”
“Beloved performer Dolly Parton exemplifies the spirit of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award through her unwavering dedication to charitable efforts. And production designer Wynn Thomas has brought some of the most enduring films to life through a visionary eye and mastery of his craft.”
In attendance was an equally prestigious crowd of onlookers. Ariana Grande, still in the throes of her Wicked: For Good promotional tour, was styled by Law Roach in Glinda-pink autumn/winter ’07/’08 Christian Dior—a one-shoulder gown embellished with floral beads along the neckline and hips. Joining her was co-star Cynthia Erivo in green (of course), wearing a Van Gogh-splattered fringed coat dress from Givenchy’s most recent spring/summer 2026 collection, courtesy of stylist Jason Bolden. There was, indeed, something in pale shades and pastels. It was a flag taken up by Elle Fanning, who chose a cupcake-pink sequinned, strapless gown, as well as Mia Goth, donning baby blue Dior.
